“Dumb and Dumber To” Films in Marietta

dumb-dumber-to-jim-carreyActors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are filming scenes for the comedy sequel “Dumb and Dumber To” in the Marietta Square.  The movie sequel is set to be released in 2014, twenty years after the first adventure with Harry and Lloyd.  This time, they are in search of one of their long lost children in hopes of gaining a new kidney.

Hundreds of people gathered to catch a bit of movie magic and a glimpse of the stars. In addition to actors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, Steve Martin was spotted nearby and Jim Carey shot a scene with actress Rachel Melvin.

For the scene, historic Marietta Squre was transformed to El Paso, Texas, the Marietta Pizza Company was changed to Marguerita Pizza Company, the Theatre in the Square became home to the Historic El Paso Players, and Jeweler on the Square was renamed The Historic El Paso Jewelry Center.

Hollywood South

Georgia is home to some of the best film and TV tax incentives in the country, offering an income tax credit of 30%. In addition, the state is now one of the top five states for film production in the U.S.  Dumb and Dumber To is the fourth production in the city of Marietta this year. Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin confirmed that the state’s tax incentives help Marietta compete with bigger players for Hollywood productions. Although he declined to estimate the financial impact, the mayor said the production adds to Marietta’s ambiance and puts the city on the map.
