Honoring a Legacy

The park is named after Elizabeth Porter, a community leader who made a significant impact in Marietta. Ms. Porter was the first director of the recreation center that originally stood on the site, offering a safe and welcoming space for the African-American community during segregation. Today, the park continues her legacy, providing a vibrant and inclusive space for all to enjoy. The park also honors the area’s heritage with a vibrant 130-foot mural depicting the history of Baptist Town, a historically African-American neighborhood in Marietta.
