Marietta native Melanie Oudin is a 17 year old tennis player with promising future. Currently ranked at 124, Melanie is advancing through the rounds at Wimbledon, much to the upset of some other major players. After three qualifying rounds, Melanie played her first match in the main draw of Wimbledon and her first main draw in any Grand Slam, and defeated her opponent Sybille Bammer in three sets winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the second round, Melanie played Yaroslava Shvedova and won again in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Today, she played Jelena Jankovic, currently ranked #6 in the world, on the show courts of Wimbledon. She started off strong against Jankovich; however, she lost a little of her aggressiveness and lost the first set in a tie break. Jankovich then took a thirteen minute time out to tend to some dizziness, but Oudin stayed focused. In the second set, she started fighting and did not quit. She won the second set with close scores and great determination. Oudin continued her great game paly in the third set and went on to win the match with a score of 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 against the former #1 player in the world. She now advances to the Wimbledon round of 16.
