The Marietta Cobb Museum of Art (MCMA), located in the historic Marietta Square, is the only fine arts museum in the Metropolitan Atlanta area that focuses exclusively on American Art. As a nonprofit organization, MCMA is dedicated to enriching the community through art, offering a wide range of events, activities, and educational opportunities throughout the year.
Setting and Collection
Housed in a beautifully renovated Classical Revival building that originally served as Marietta’s post office, the museum is a testament to both history and art. Since its opening, MCMA has continually expanded its permanent collection, featuring works from the 18th century to the present day. The museum also hosts ambitious special exhibitions, making each visit a new experience.
Programs and Events
MCMA is also a center for learning and creativity. The museum offers a variety of educational programs, including art classes, summer camps, and workshops for all ages. MCMA’s experienced teaching artists guide students on their artistic journey through still life, figure drawing, pottery, painting, and more. Unique programs like “Yoga in the Gallery” and “Toddler Time” cater to diverse interests, while special events like “Art of the Cocktail” and “First Free Sundays” invite the public to enjoy art in a social setting.
Exhibitions and Celebrations
One of the museum’s most anticipated events is “Metro Montage,” an annual juried exhibition that showcases a wide variety of genres and techniques from artists across the country. Another highlight is Chalktoberfest, Georgia’s largest chalk art festival, which draws artists from around the world and serves as MCMA’s biggest fundraiser.
Get Involved
MCMA offers numerous ways for the public to engage with the museum, including volunteering and internships. From helping at special events and assisting with art camps to participating in the MCMA Teen Art Club, there are plenty of opportunities to support the museum’s mission of building community through art.
